Melbourne Park, on the edge of Melbourne's CBD beside the Yarra River, has hosted the Australian Open since 1988, when it opened as Flinders Park to replace Kooyong. Its main court, Rod Laver Arena, seats about 14,820 and was the first Grand Slam stadium with a retractable roof. John Cain Arena and Margaret Court Arena are the two other roofed show courts.
